Karel
Štědrý
Painter and sculptor combining geometric precision with the energy of the Prague hip-hop scene. He studied painting at UMPRUM in the studio of Stanislav Diviš. A decisive influence on him was Stanislav Kolíbal, who chose him as his protégé. In his paintings, he combines acrylic, pastel, spray, and his own black charcoal; motifs are repeated and developed in long series. In sculpture, he works with the Merkur construction kit, which he transforms into large-scale geometric objects oscillating between industrial aesthetics and pure abstraction.
He uses digital technologies as a natural space for sketching and experimentation. Since 2002, he has held more than twenty solo exhibitions and over forty group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad.
In his sculptural work, he transforms the Merkur construction kit into monumental structures as well as functional furniture. He understands Merkur as the essence of Czech craftsmanship genius — metal craftsmanship in a box that inspires both discipline and freedom.
